Job Summary

ACCO Brands is seeking a Plant General Manager (Relocation Package Provided) for our Alexandria (Blair), PA facility. 

Responsibilities

  • Leadership of manufacturing and distribution facility, engineering, quality, and operations support staff aimed at obtaining world class results in safety, quality, cost, and service.
  • Driving tactical initiatives to support sales and marketing strategies.
  • Developing inventory plans together with supply chain management to enable sales growth while managing excess and obsolescence risk.
  • Analyze processes to improve the productivity and profitability of manufacturing and distribution through initiation and implementation of projects that optimize costs, reduce waste, and improve productivity/quality.
  • Identify opportunities to automate workflow and processes. Partner with key vendors and automation suppliers to deploy off-the-shelf and custom solutions.
  • Recommend the best demonstrated practices for utilization of space, manpower, material, and machinery. 
  • Continually study and keep updated Industry Best demonstrated practices on processes, automation solutions and process workflow.
  • Works daily with manufacturing and distribution personnel to develop and document standard work methods in support of the efficient utilization of space, equipment, material, and product flow.
  • Evaluates all processes with the goal of continuously improving process capability, equipment availability, capacity, and overall plant productivity.
  • Works closely with operations support groups and manages the local operations personnel to plan for, develop, and implement part and process validation studies across the entire product line.
  • Manages site engineering staff to modify bills of materials and labor routings as necessary to ensure the accurate development of standard cost / current cost data.
  • Analyzes and recommends design for manufacturing approaches necessary to meet production requirements for new and improved products and processes.
  • Implements Lean and Six Sigma processes.
  • Proactively participates with suppliers on the determination of required product specifications and evaluates in-coming material according to agreed upon standards.
  • Applies project management skills in the justification, procurement, and installation of capital equipment.
  • Approximates staffing requirements and related costs to provide accurate/timely estimates for management decisions.
  • Applies statistical methods to evaluate capabilities and future potential.
  • Identifies and corrects safety and ergonomic concerns to insure a productive and safe work environment.
  • Ability to complete detailed analytics on key distribution, logistics, manufacturing, and operational data. Summarize and present findings, conclusions, and recommendations to executive management.
  • Develop equipment requirements and participate in facility design projects. Continuously improve processes and equipment selection for industry-leading manufacturing and distribution, productivity, ergonomics, and safety.
  • Create bid specifications for the procurement of material handling equipment and related projects. Work with corporate sourcing department to obtain best pricing through competitive bidding and participate in vendor selection process.
  • Evaluate operational opportunities across network. Provide recommendations for new technology/automation (receiving, put-away, picking, shipping) through detailed analytics and project implementation.
  • Achieve plant financial targets.

Qualifications

  • A seasoned Executive with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
  • 10+ years of related professional experience in fast moving consumer products, manufacturing, and distribution environment, currently in a similar capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in Product Design, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Operations for Consumer Goods required.
  • High energy leader with a proven record of success.
  • Experience with Lean principles, TPS, 6-Sigma or similar production optimization framework preferred.
  • Excellent ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while independently managing multiple projects, partners, and priorities.
  • Ability to quickly assess situations, evaluate alternatives, make, and communicate decisions, drive to resolution. Strong blend of analytical decision making and creative problem solving.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership and change management skills required.
  • Experience working within a union environment.
  • An accomplished leader who demonstrates a high personal commitment along with a proven capacity to develop and lead a team.
  • A relationship builder with channel partners along with a demonstrated track record of long-term business relationships that have resulted in sustained revenue growth.
  • Exceptional idea generation, engagement, and communication skills.
  • Strong business/financial acumen and strategic focus.
  • Proven ability to increase profitability and successfully manage working capital.
  • A “people person” – someone with strong interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to successfully motivate and lead a team. 
  • Develop a culture and an operating philosophy that promotes teamwork and respect for all employees.  Involvement and collaboration with the employees in improving safety in their work environment and productivity is a must.
  • Proficiency using MS office applications.
  • Experience in the paper/printing industry preferred.
