Job Summary

To set up, operate and maintain Will 520.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up machine and supporting equipment to rule, cut, insert cover, back and/or dividers, round corner, punch, drill and insert wire for various sizes and counts of spiral books scheduled.
  • Changes ruling pens, transfers rollers and picks up rollers in inking station.
  • Maintains ink supply in ink fountains.
  • Prepares rolls of paper, loads to machine, and laces up.
  • Positions spool of wire to the inserter and thread.
  • Maintains supply of covers, backs, and dividers in the sheet inserters.
  • Adjusts and maintains all necessary adjustments and/or repairs during the entire production run to insure optimum productivity and product quality.
  • Investigates machine breakdowns, determines cause, and makes necessary repairs.
  • Removes, repairs, and reinstalls or replaces defective parts.
  • Inspects product to ensure acceptable quality standards.
  • Assists the Packer to insure optimum productivity.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and lubrication.
  • Complies with all safety policies (e.g. guard use, hearing protection, etc.), reporting any violation to immediate supervisor.
  • Prepares daily record of work performed.
  • Monitors inventory level of routinely used production materials and supplies, informing appropriate personnel of inventory needs.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge would normally be acquired through a high school degree or equivalent program.
  • Ability to read and apply contents of manufacturing orders, operating manuals, and other related information to operate machine to produce a quality product.
  • Ability to write to record work performed daily.
  • Ability to perform mathematics used to set up and operate machines and equipment to produce a quality product.
  • Ability to independently complete tasks as assigned by others.
  • Ability to communicate to explain or interpret procedures and discuss problems with packers, maintenance, and supervisory personnel.
  • Ability to solve mechanical problems that are diverse and involved in the operation of the equipment.
  • Ability to make decisions to operate equipment, make repairs and adjustments, and maximize productivity.
  • Ability to use jack, numerous hand tools.
