Job Summary

The Sr. Director, Global Trade & Customs will lead the global trade compliance function and act as a subject matter expert for global trade compliance matters for ACCO Brands. This person will be accountable for all customs-related operations and compliance with all import/export laws, provide strategic advice to the company on trade matters, orchestrate global trade compliance policies and procedures and support the company’s growth from a global export/import compliance perspective. This position will have customs compliance knowledge of North America and European Customs operations and be able to direct overarching global policy while having oversight to regional transactional customs activity.  This role reports into the VP Global Operations and will be based in the corporate location with connection to all global operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Company’s compliance with export/import laws;
  • Oversight to the day-to-day operations while managing staff both in the US, UK and EU.
  • Review and develop enhancements to Company’s existing trade compliance program;
  • Minimize customs duties levied on the Company’s products;
  • Field all trade compliance questions from employees of the Company;
  • Develop, maintain and update documented internal controls and desk operating procedures over trade compliance matters;
  • Oversee freight forwarders’ and other vendors’ compliance with export/import rules;
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities to facilitate trade in a cost-effective and compliant manner 
  • Interact with trade-related government agencies in the United States and abroad;
  • Support the Internal Audit group by identifying areas of potential risk for testing.
  • Manage the company’s CTPAT Program

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of international trade experience, focusing primarily on customs and trade compliance matters
  • 5+ years of experience leading a team or as a project / program manager.
  • BA / BS degree or equivalent required (e.g., international policy, international business) or evidence of exceptional ability and/or experience.
  • U.S. Customhouse Broker License strongly preferred
  • Well versed in responding to government inquiries
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver practical solutions to solve complex customs issues
  • Detail oriented and highly organized with ability to multi-task several projects at once, including a demonstrated ability to drive decision-making in a fast-paced environment with on-demand requests.
  • Ability to drive complex, cross functional projects including setting scope, reaching consensus, executing on tasks, and presenting results.
  • Strong experience with MS Office Applications, including knowledge of Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with implementing (or at a minimum utilizing) databases and enterprise resource planning (“ERP”) global trade automation solutions.
