Job Summary
ACCO Brands is seeking a compliance attorney to provide product compliance legal support across a broad range of ACCO Brands products. Based in Stuttgart, this role works directly with ACCO Brands’ product compliance teams globally to ensure our products remain compliant with all applicable standards, laws, rules and regulations. This role reports to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel for Litigation, Corporate and Product Compliance based in the US. The ideal candidate has experience with a wide range of Directives, country-level, and applicable international product compliance requirements and market regulatory standards including but not limited to Circular Economy/Sustainability regulations, REACH, RoHS, WEEE, EMC Directive, LVD, GHS, EUTR and other local country regulations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and proactively identify new and emerging product legal requirements for the EU, UK and EU export markets.
- Review and interpret these requirements to identify the scope of each, their respective requirements, effective dates, and penalties for non-compliance.
- Support other internal professionals who are primarily responsible for translating the legal requirements into compliance action plans applicable to our products, the geographies in which those products are distributed, and the requirements of our customers.
- Support our product management, project management, quality and procurement teams to, as appropriate, implement those action plans across our product portfolio and then confirm that those action plans have been completed.
- Support the implementation of new product regulations and requirements, and remedial activities for potentially non-compliant products.
- Lead training initiatives on compliance programs for internal stakeholders and suppliers.
Qualifications
- Legal degree required
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in regulatory product compliance and product safety across EMEA. Consumer products industry experience is highly preferred.
- Previous hands-on management of regulatory product compliance for a global company is desired.
- Demonstrated knowledge of global environmental regulatory compliance organizations and trends, including policies and procedures to assure compliance with applicable local and national laws and regulations and third-party guidelines.
- Top level understanding of chemical regulations and usage is preferred. Although our products are not chemically complex, it is desirable that the candidate be able to identify when our products might be affected by chemical regulations.
- Demonstrated program leadership and cross-functional collaboration with internal and external teams.
- An ability to translate, structure and communicate complex legal requirements into clear actions and plans.
- Have the ability to explain complex regulations and/or challenging issues in a clear manner to all levels of the organization, including Senior Management.
- Have the ability to work with international clients and colleagues as well as travel both within the EU and the UK periodically.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- In-depth understanding of and interest in technical subjects.
- High level of interdisciplinary teamwork skills.
